Obituary of Anita A. Coleman
Anita A. Walker Coleman, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2021.
She was born in Newark, NJ on September 11, 1956 to Roosevelt and Mary Walker.
Raised in East Orange, Anita was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she participated in various youth activities.
She attended the East Orange school system, graduating from East Orange high school in 1974. She worked at City Hall for several years. Anita met and married Leon Coleman, also from East Orange. They had two children, Alonza Coleman and Alesha Coleman
Anita served in the United States Army until honorably discharged in 1986. She returned to NJ and eventually came back to East Orange. There she reconnected with many of her childhood friends and fellow alumni. She was a proud EO Panther and member of the Class of L.I.F.E.74.
Anita joined Calvary Baptist Church where she had family and friends and made new ones.
She loved to spend time with family and friends. She was kind hearted and generous, always willing to help someone else. She had a ready smile and infectious laugh. Anita would interact with people to laugh and talk about travel, good place to eat, new drinks, or movies. She was a Marvel groupie who had many discussions regarding the Marvel world. She loved going to the theater and one of the highlights would be the family bus Ride to NY for show and dinner.
Travel was Anita’s next favorite thing. She often traveled to New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia and Texas to spend time with her family. She also managed to get a few stamps in her passport. Anita traveled to Germany, Bermuda, South Africa, Cape Town and home away from home, Cancun, Mexico.
Nana! Her biggest love and joy were her grandbabies. Sending little gifts from New Jersey. Having them share their artwork, music, videos and facetimes, was priceless.
Anita leaves to cherish her memory her children; Alonza Coleman (Anita), Alesha Coleman; sister, Jacqueline Anderson; brother, David Walker (Arnita); grandchildren; Elayjah, Makayla, Cayden and Caleb. There is a host of family and friends who will remember her with love.
