Obituary of Marie Althercie Augustin
Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On April 18th 2020, Marie Augustin, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully at New Grove Manor Nursing Home. She was 84 years old.
Born in Verrette, Haiti to MonPremier and Helen Noel Augustin on October 24th,1935.
She was a generous soul, who was full of life, had a strong love for her family, loved to laugh and make jokes. She was tough, head strong, hardworking, and dedicated. She had a smile that could melt your heart and everywhere she went, she left an impression.
She migrated to the united of states in 1989 seeking a better life for her family where she resided in Newark NJ. Shortly thereafter, she filed for her children to be by her side in America. In between raising her family, learning the English language, adapting to a new environment and its customs she sought to make a life for herself and children. She worked as a factory worker for 10 years before she became ill.
She was a member of Antioch Pentecostal Church in South Orange New Jersey. She was a faithful Christian, calling or writing to Radio Éclair for prayers was a daily routine for her. She was an activist. She protested injustice done to the Haitian community during the AIDS epidemic in Manhattan New York. She was truly an inspiration to her family. She was business savvy, she opened and maintained a grocery store in Saint Marc, Haiti serving her community. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, sewing clothes, traveling and cooking. She was a fashionable woman who loved wearing jewelry.
Her happiest moments were when her family would visit, she would dance, and recite stories with her grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren very much, always spoiling them with food, money, clothes, and love. She always supported them in their endeavors and motivating them in every aspect. She always said “when God is ready to call me, I will go”. For her the music never stops, she never stopped dancing despite her physical disabilities, she was truly happy.
