Obituary of Herbert Screen III

Herbert Screen lll was the eldest child of the late Herbert Screen Jr. and Helen Screen. Herbert was born on August 22, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout this life, Herbert was inspirational and a comforter to many. His devotion to God and helping others is a legacy unmatched and will forever resonate in our hearts. He peacefully transitioned from this life on Easter morning April 12, 2020 at his home in East Orange, New Jersey.
Herbert spent his childhood attending Sunday school and serving as an acolyte at the Church of the Holy Redeemer Lutheran, in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. He attended PS224, IS 218, and graduated from Franklin K Lane High School in 1972. In high school, Herbert ran track and played the trumpet in the school band. As a teenager, Herbert began working delivering newspapers locally in his New York neighborhood.
After high school, Herbie worked alongside his father at the Meyer Levin Jr. High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. as a Custodial Boiler Engineer while attending CUNY to study architecture and engineering. While financing his college career, Herbert developed his passion as a young entrepreneur event planner and promoter of Special Occasions 1, spotlighting local and well renowned jazz musicians, comedic entertainers, fashion designers, models, and wonderful culinary artists. Due to his amazing work ethic, Herbert managed promote events while retaining employment as a Certified Crane Operator, Steel Welder and Union Laborer with several New York City Construction Companies before starting an over 25- year career as a truck driver for the New York Daily News. While promoting events, he met his wife Barbara Screen. They united in marriage and moved to East Orange, NJ. Herbert continued his devotion to God by becoming an ordained minister and deacon at FMCF church in Harlem NY for almost 20 years before becoming a devoted member and deacon at Church of the New Covenant in East Orange, NJ.
Herbert is survived by his wife and three children Chiffon, Walter, and Noelle. He is also a beloved grandfather to five children Madisyn, Myles, Neriya, Aaron, and Garry. Herbert is remembered by family and friends for his warm and bright personality. The care and devotion he displayed to everyone will forever be cherished.
