Her Glory
Born Annette Marie Hansberry to Maebelle and Arthur Hansberry, on April 5, 1922 in Jacksonville, Florida. Annette had two sisters and six brothers. She attended Cookman Elementary School, Stanton High School and the Walker School of Business.
One day, while walking home from the Strand Theatre, Annette met Ernest Jackson Quick. She later married Ernest on August 7, 1947. In 1949, they moved to New Jersey, but shortly thereafter returned home to Jacksonville because she was homesick. Eventually she and Ernest moved to Jamaica Queens, New York where they lived with her sister for a short while. After leaving Jamaica Queens, they moved back to New Jersey, residing in Engelwood, Jersey City, and Newark and living out the remainder of her life in Irvington, New Jersey.
Annette worked for many years at First National Bank in downtown Newark before retiring as supervisor of maintenance.
Annette was born and raised Catholic but converted to Baptist. She joined Second Friendship Baptist Church on Oraton Street in Newark under the pastoral direction of the late Rev. Isaiah Jackson, Sr. She later joined Deliverance Baptist Church on Grain Street in Newark ,under Rev. Jackson’s leadership before Pastor Leslie Davis took over the reigns. Annette was a loyal and faithful member of Deliverance for many years before becoming one of the Mothers in the church. She truly loved the Lord and was strong in her faith. She departed this world unafraid, knowing she would be going home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Annette is survived by her children; Anthony, Jacquelyn, Cynthia, and Ernest, her beloved granddaughters; Stephanie and LaTesha, her grandsons; Anrae ,and Jabriel, great-grandsons; Deonté, Jaden, and Anrae jr. Son-in-law, Rolly, daughter in-law, Patricia her loving niece, Betty Ann, her great niece, Phyllis, and a host of other loving family members and friends.
