Obituary of Minnie Robinson

Minnie Lois Robinson was born June 22, 1940 in Springhope North Carolina as Minnie Lois Smith. She was the first child born to the late Geneva Smith-Acosta and Alexander Smith. On September 16, 2016 Minnie went home peacefully to be with the lord. Minnie lived in Springhope North Carolina with her parents and 2 siblings Betty and Mattie. When Minnie was 4 years old the family migrated north to Harlem NY, where 6 more siblings where born, Philip, Clifford, Ernestine (deceased), Nathaniel, Rose and Doris. Minnie was raised and educated in Harlem. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1958. After high school she fell in love and married her first husband Allan R. Williams (deceased) from that union 3 children were born. Beatrice, Allan, Irene. In 1968 she began raising her 4-year-old nephew Alphonso, who she later adopted. She worked at PS 83 Manhattan as a school aide and librarian. After leaving the school system, she began her career in banking. She worked at Chase Manhattan bank as a supervisor over the major airline accounts until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1973. In 1975 she married her 2nd husband the late Alfred Jackson and the family relocated to Hudson NY. Years after the passing of her second husband, Minnie married her 3rd husband Joe Robinson. Minnie had many talents. She knew how to sew and made many outfits for herself and her children. She was a good cook and everyone always wanted her to make cod fish cakes whenever a party or family gathering was to take place. She loved music and loved to dance, before becoming ill, she kept up with the latest dance moves. Minnie loved throwing parties for family and friends. One year she threw a New Year’s Eve party that lasted for 3 days. When Minnie moved to Hudson NY, she joined Shiloh Baptist Church, she enjoyed going to church. When she could no longer drive, the members made sure she got to church. She also enjoyed playing bingo and liked watching game shows on TV. In the summertime she would sit on her front porch and watch the neighborhood children play. She always kept ice pops in her freezer to hand out to the playing children. In the 1990’s Minnie’s health started to decline to the point that she could no longer live on her own, so in 1995 she decided to move herself into Pine Haven nursing home in Philmont NY, where she resided until 2009, when her children moved her to a nursing home in Queens, so she could be closer to family. Minnie leaves to cherish her memory: Six siblings: Betty Fennell (Charlie), Mattie Stacy(Lionel), Philip Smith (Shirley), Clifford Smith (Genola), Rose Murphy (Jean) Doris Lewis (Anthony). Four children: Beatrice K Santos, Allan Williams III, Irene D. Williams and Alphonso Smith-Jackson. One son in law Carlos Santos and one daughter in law Angela Williams. Three grandchildren: Allan D. Williams IV, Antoine M. Williams (Quiana) and Shaunice V. Williams. Eight great-grandchildren: Keijon, Jamari, Quincy, Nadja, Sierra, Sonny, Heaven and Zy’hir, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
