February 26, 2016

Though I could not be there, I am sure that the service for Aunt Lystra was as beautiful as the tribute paid to her on Facebook. She lived a life that touched so many beyond normal measure. I am proud to include myself in that number. I want to be clear and on record that Aunt Lystra was and is an important part of me being who I am today. Hereâs why:

⢠Aunt Lystra convinced my dad to purchase my first clarinet leading to my love of music.

â¢She instilled in me leadership skills which led to my becoming a student conductor in the elementary school band, the drum major in junior high school and high school.

â¢She laid the foundation for me to get my first internship with the Port Authority of New York which provided the foundation for my professional acumen. This subsequently led to a series of high ranking professional positions ranging front director of personnel to Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for several school districts throughout the country.

All of those experiences have brought be back to doing what I love most in life, working in and around music.

The loss of a loved one is never easy, some losses are harder than others. For me, the loss of Aunt Lystra touches my very core, for I am a product of â2520 North Miro in New Orleansâ and the villagers that lived there.

Several years ago I was sitting next to our grandmother and she lamented that âa button had fallen from the coatâ. The occasion was my fatherâs funeral. As I look at the coatâ¦with Aunt Lystraâs passing there is only one button left (Aunt Lolita) but all others remain strong in our memories.

Thanks for sharing Aunt Lystra. I am here for you.

With love ...your cousin,
Joseph L. Jones, III aka âTugaâ

Lystra B. Williams Jones had a generosity of spirit that allowed her to open her heart to people that were not her own, but belonged to her nonetheless, and when approached with gratitude years later, replied "Are you still thinking about that?!", because to her, it was as it should be. A wonderful example from a beautiful and gracious woman. My love and deepest sympathies to all.

At times like this words can never console the heart enough. May God bring peace and comfort through your grief.

Life - a Poem by Charlotte Brontë

LIFE, believe, is not a dream
So dark as sages say;
Oft a little morning rain
Foretells a pleasant day.
Sometimes there are clouds of gloom,
But these are transient all;
If the shower will make the roses bloom,
O why lament its fall ?

Rapidly, merrily,
Life's sunny hours flit by,
Gratefully, cheerily,
Enjoy them as they fly !

What though Death at times steps in
And calls our Best away ?
What though sorrow seems to win,
O'er hope, a heavy sway ?
Yet hope again elastic springs,
Unconquered, though she fell;
Still buoyant are her golden wings,
Still strong to bear us well.
Manfully, fearlessly,
The day of trial bear,
For gloriously, victoriously,
Can courage quell despair!
