Billy was a father image to me. If I could be half the man he was I would be a great man. I was extremely blessed to have him in my life. Uncle Billy is gone but will never be forgotten. I love you. You will be missed.

Billy was my uncle because he married my mother's sister. As my uncle, he treated me like a son having unchallenged authority to act and punish if need be that a father has with his son. But he was just, Billy. He was my godfather, and as such, he treated me differently than he did my siblings, but his treatment of us was always fair and equal to what the situation called for at the time. But to me, he was just Billy. He did not demand that as a child, I refer to him as Mr., Uncle, or Sir, so I called him Billy because to me, he was just Billy. Although he played multiple roles in my life, always what was needed at the time, the most important role he played that I loved the most was Billy, my friend. A father has a child, and he has a responsibility to take care of that child. He was not my mother or my father's brother, so his role as Uncle was given to him as part of being married to the family. As Godfather, while you choose to accept that responsibility, it comes with some limitations. His role in my life was born out of unwavering, unconditional love. A devotion by choice, so although at times he was a father, always was he an uncle, and godfather, to me, he was just Billy. The best friend a young man could ever ask for.

I have a ton of memories with Billy and most are hilarious! Like when he took me fishing because all the boys were gone. He showed me how to put the worm on the hook but let me use the rubber things because the live worms had me too squeamish. I actually caught a fish but it popped out the water and scared me and I threw fish, rod and reel in the water and ran! Billy then showed me how to clean the fish and made me clean them all for making him have to go in the water to get his rod!
My favorite memory is when this bully came on the block and and was messing with the kids outside. Frances and Billy were watching and that boy hit La Mont and Billy took off out the door. He went over there and I remember he was talking to the boy and I guess he got in the wrong lane again because Billy snatched him up and flipped him upside down holding him in the air. You could hear that boy yelling and crying. Billy put him down and the boy ran off down the street. Billy made sure the kids were ok and then he came back to the house. He was the ONLY one to step up and take action. That's one of many lessons he taught by being the man he was.
Billy you are loved and will be missed.
