Obituary of Ina K. Duran McCall
Our beloved Ina “K”, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer.
Ina was born on February 28, 1953 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Sallie and Willie C. Little. The youngest of four children, she was a cherished “baby sister”. She grew up in Newark, New Jersey and with a talent for drawing, graduated from Arts High School. She continued her education in the arts and earned her Bachelor’s degree in arts education from Rutgers University, Livingston College.
Ina’s beauty -both inside and out, and welcoming spirit were evident to all who met her, and if they were lucky, grew to know her. It launched her career at the Golden Nugget Casino, and later as an art teacher, then elementary grades, and finally middle school teacher. She was a firm, but kind educator, helping the children of the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District achieve their best for more than 25 years.
Ina married Emanuel “Manny” Duran in 1984 and soon after, welcomed a son, Brandon Reese Duran on July 28, 1986. Their union lasted until his passing in 2006.
Ina was blessed to find romantic love again with Hurley T. McCall, and they married in November, 2013. They enjoyed creating precious and loving memories together with their blended and extended families over the past 10 years together until her passing.
In addition to being a devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, Ina was also a committed civic leader. As the first African American woman elected to office, she served as a member of the Egg Harbor City Common Council from 2011 to 2013, and was honored by Mayor Lisa Jiampetti in February, 2022 for her contributions.
Ina was a gifted artist, creating beautiful pastels and paintings for family and friends. Her talents extended to beautiful crafts, gardening, and of course – culinary masterpieces too. She will always be remembered for her many wonderful cookouts and signature dishes of fried chicken, potato salad and macaroni and cheese that were out of this world!
Ina is predeceased by her parents, Willie and Sallie, and Emanuel Duran. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Brandon Duran; husband ,Hurley McCall; siblings Roslyn Little Carter, Jean (Anderson “Earl”) Lee, William C. Little, and a host of relatives and friends.
